An Expected Great Show!
She's always been on my list of people to see and when I heard she was coming to Chicago I immediately bought tickets. I've never seen Coheed and Cambria live before. I've never been to the Chicago Theater either so I was excited on both counts.
The show was wonderful. She did a really good job of balancing the new songs with the older more popular songs. I was sitting in my seat thinking to myself "it would be cool to hear [insert song title here] live" and to my delight she played a lot of what I was hoping she would play and a few surprises along the way as well. Completely opposite with Coheed and Cambria. I've been to concerts before where all you want to hear is an old favorite live and they don't deliver.
The string quartet that was backing her (in lieu of her normal band) was absolutely wonderful as well. They put a whole new twist on some of her older songs that were either recorded with just Tori and her piano or with Tori, piano, and background band. She played for over two hours straight and played about 25 songs. She did let the quartet play a couple of their own compositions by themselves and they were great!
My husband, who I initially dragged with me out of marital duty, was impressed as well. He went in not really knowing what to expect but he gained more respect for Coheed and Cambria. He thought the way she played two pianos simultaneously was cool.
If not I'll certainly have something great to remember, I hope I'll get a chance to see her again.
